Tiscali issues statement on Speed enhancement service

Tuesday, June 17th 2008

Today, Tiscali issued a statement regarding its dialup service which uses the software provided by Onspeed to offer better download speeds to its customers. The deal agreed earlier between the ISP and Onspeed allow the users to download websites and other online contents at much faster rate. The software which comes free with its narrowband service was launched with an aim to enhance internet browsing experience and to increase customer satisfaction.

The Onspeed software could enhance speeds over any Internet connection sub 2Mb anywhere in the world via a simple download, according to the report.

However, the service can only help the uncompressed files like emails and web pages to download faster. When it comes to downloading music, games or videos, the service will not improve the download speeds as the connection speeds determine how fast you can download. The reason being, these files are already in compressed format.

The following statement from Tiscali further clarifies the impact of new product on the download speeds:

"Please note the correction to our press release which we realise may be misleading in implying that Tiscali will implement ONSPEED for its Broadband customers. This is not the case. Tiscali has used Onspeed with its Narrowband customers for a number of years and this represents a change in contractual terms only."
