Tiscali for sale

Sky bids for Tiscali – As per the latest news, Sky, one of the leading broadband providers in UK has entered into "exclusive" talks to buy the UK ISP business for an "analytical price" of £450m. It is assumed that appropriate attentiveness could reduce the price.

By getting hold of the 1.8 million subscribers of Tiscali, Sky being the fifth largest broadband provider would be identified as the third largest broadband provider with a total of 3.6 million, which will make them stand just behind Virgin Media.

Another benefit for the customers is that it would also offer a means for those internet users who do not want satellite TV. It has not been confirmed whether Sky would transfer Tiscali's customers to the superior Easynet network, which was bought by then when they it moved on to the ISP business in the year 2006.

Apart from Sky, several prospective buyers including Vodafone and Carphone Warehouse have been involved with bid for Tiscali since it was put on for sale at the end if February. Tiscali has shed light on the topic by mentioning that it is at present holding discussions with the BSkyB Group plc in relation to certain UK assets.
