3 UK launches In Car Wi-Fi kit
3 UK is reported to have unveiled a new Wi-Fi kit for cars that can provide mobile broadband connectivity at speeds of up to 7.2Mbps. The announcement was made at The Gadget Show 2010 that is now underway in Birmingham. The Gadget show is a prestigious consumer electronics event in the UK that provides everything from news, reviews and more on the latest gadgets in the market.
3's in-car Wi-Fi modem works by connecting with the provider's 3G network, thereby creating a Wi-Fi hotspot inside the car. Thus, passengers get to enjoy internet access for their Wi-Fi enabled laptops, notebooks, iPod Touch etc without a USB connection or the clutter of wires. The device costs almost £60 and comes with a Mi-Fi Huawei wireless modem, two chargers (main and in car), a windscreen holder & 1GB memory.
David Kerrigan, 3 UK's Head of Internet Services said that the provider was always working towards new products and services that tend to connect their customers “ in more places both at home and on the move” and that their in-car Wi-Fi kit could do this.
