3 UK Declares Mobile Broadband, a
The mobile broadband provider of the UK, 3 UK has played down all the recent stories on the disadvantages of mobile broadband as baseless, and in the process has also decared that the technology was a viable alternative to the fixed line broadband technology. The argument, whatsoever, is increasingly getting hot as the deadline for the universal broadband programme implementation in the country was drawing closer. Phil Sheppard, the director for technical solutions at 3UK claimed that mobile broadband could pragmatically cover those remote areas of the UK, where a fixed line broadband connection was either unavailable or poor. He added that all these could be done with minimal investment as well. According to him, the ignition for this was government's opening up of more radio spectrum to the mobile broadband operators, which they could harness to deliver reliable wireless internet to the remote areas of the country where fixed line broadband has not opened an account. Meanwhile, the chief broadband analyst of Broadband Suppliers, Chuck Doherty said that many people in the country were of the opinion that the mobile broadband operators could obviously give a supporting hand to the universal broadband movement of the government, even prior to the spectrum re-allocation. He added that the people cannot be blamed if they say that the operators were instead trying to blackmail the government at this critical point of time. According to Doherty, 3 UK should consider this fact as well that there was another viable alternative for both mobile and fixed line technologies, which was the satellite technology. He summed up saying that provided with a little bit of enhancement, the satellite technology could emerge a real factor that would maintain the healthy competition in the country's broadband segment.
