TV and Mobile Services will be launched by TalkTalk
With its eyes fixed on a gain in March’s stock market listing, TalkTalk, one of the leading broadband home phone providers operating in the United Kingdom is currently mulling over the possibilities of launching fresh mobile phone and TV services. Quite apparently, there is also a not so concealed effort to give a strong statement to its rival broadband providers.
Incidentally, Charles Dunstone, the chief executive officer of Carphone Warehouse, the parent company of TalkTalk, outlined the plans as the firm published documents regarding the demerger of its telecoms and retail interests.
Given the rapidly maturing fixed-line broadband internet market, the telecoms subsidiary of Carphone Warehouse, TalkTalk’s identifying TV and mobile phone services as the fresh growth sources does not come as a surprise. As a matter of fact, the broadband market experts were expecting such a move from TalkTalk at any time.
It is also worth noting that almost all the potential rivals of TalkTalk, in the sector already have showcased TV services. To be more precise, UK ISPs such as Sky, Virgin Media and BT have been successfully offering triple play broadband TV and phone services as discounted bundle packages in the UK market.
If the information from sources can be taken into account, it is very much likely that by early 2011, TalkTalk may evolve into a full-fledged TV operator. The broadband provider is at present is involved in the BBC-led consortium – Project Canvas, which is all set to launch a TV set-top box with connection to internet before 2011 end.
