The UK has become the leader in broadband services, says ‘Talk Talk’

‘Talk Talk’ is of the opinion that the UK can now be proud of being a leader in providing digital and broadband service to the consumers. Proper utilization of the allotted fund has resulted in the achievement of the formidable task.

David Goldie of the company feels that the UK consumers are getting advantages of the benefits of broadband paying much lesser than its neighbours.

The UK consumers are enjoying the fruits of competition among the providers. Things have changed for good during the past six years. BT is no more enjoying the monopoly it had sometime back. Competition and innovation prevail.

The UK now has the necessary adoption standards. Almost 90% of the country will have the full network shortly. At present the speed is four times more than that in 2005 and the customers are charged only at 50% of the original rate.

This is mainly because of Local Loop Unbundling (LLU), which allows the local telephone exchanges to accommodate the equipment of the providers. But the authorities should not be satisfied with the present status. Fibre optic installation should go on in full swing by BT which can then regain its monopoly.

The shareholders must advise BT to refrain from competing with other providers. But the government and Ofcom should encourage healthy competition which will result only in better benefits for the consumers.
