TalkTalk is reported to have plans of increasing its UK broadband coverage to 90% by the end of 2010. The home phone and broadband company currently covers about 80% of the UK population and is said to have unbundled telephone exchanges of about 1,700. TalkTalk also has plans to unbundle 300 telephone exchanges over the approaching year, which will result in approximately 90% coverage to the UK population and more than 2,000 enabled telephone exchanges.

Mark Schmid, TalkTalk’s Communications Director said, “ We’re also upgrading the capacity of our network in anticipation of ever-higher internet usage” and added that the industry expectation was that online data consumption will double year on year. TalkTalk was therefore enhancing its network to meet “ this explosive rise in demand.”

TalkTalk is currently part of online TV service Canvas, which Mr Schmid feels will join YouTube, BBC iPlayer and ITV Player that facilitate the current upward trend. TalkTalk recently opened a new office in Soho, central London which was inaugurated by founder and chairman Charles Dunstone.
