TalkTalk flays Ofcom Plan to let KC bundle service in Hull

TalkTalk, the popular UK broadband and home phone operator has slammed the recent proposal of Ofcom to allow Karoo ISP (KC), Hull's incumbent internet service provider and telecoms operator to bundle its broadband and phone services.

TalkTalk called the regulator's plan an admission of defeat. It is also interesting that a number of other internet service providers have also expressed similar concerns. These ISPs include Nexus Telecommunications and Fibrestream.

The proposal of the telecommunications watchdog that could result in the businesses and residents of Hull and East Riding in Yorkshire being able to take advantage of slightly cheaper phone and broadband bundles, had surfaced for the first time in 2010 August. As a matter of fact, this included a short consultation period of one month.

However, many rival internet service providers, besides some of Karoo's own customers have in response to the consultation, complained that relieving the restrictions could turn it even harder for competition to enter the somewhat isolated telecoms market of Hull.

The most scathing remark, perhaps came from TalkTalk that represented well more than 4.2 million UK broadband internet customers in the broader market. Nonetheless, there are also a few customers that supported the plan of Ofcom and suggested that Karoo should be let to offer bundles since there was hardly another viable provider.

Incidentally, the regulator's consultation came to an end officially earlier this month. This means the market is expecting a verdic on it at some point in a very short time.
