‘Talk Talk’ criticises BT
The broadband service provider ‘Talk Talk’ has severely criticised its competitor BT for its indifferent attitude regarding broadband installation. David Goldie of Talk Talk warned that BT’s steps will only result in the provision of second rate infrastructure for the service. At present BT is covering most of the areas of UK. BT seems to be interested only in recovering the monopoly it enjoyed before the privatisation of 1984. This will not help the common people of the country who are in need of super broadband connectivity. Virgin Media, which has established it self to be the best and most efficient provider has got only 25% of the areas for its networks. Fujitsu’s scheme for the rural broadband is well supported by Talk Talk. BT is having a tough competition from Fujitsu. Unless BT reduces its charges for customers using underground trenches and telegraph posts, the initiative for fast broadband will run into rough weather. Goldie wants Ofcom to intervene. But Olivia Garfield of BT Openreach does not agree. She says that BT has been providing access to others via their trenches and poles. BT is cooperating with other providers in all respects in the interest of the country.
