The broadband users have been advised to take all sorts of IT security precautions. The broadband service provider ‘Talk Talk’ interviewed about 19,900 web connected subscribers and found out that about 45% of them had been attacked ‘online’ in one way or the other.
In the first three months of the year about 700, 000 attempts were made at identity theft. Almost 34% of the attackers collected personal identity details from the computers making use of Adware.
14% of the attacks were from Spyware and ‘Trojan horses’. The Viruses also accounted for another 14%.
Among internet attacks worms, hacking, ‘ID theft and phishing’ etc accounted for 5%, 3% and 4% respectively. About 23% of the broadband users informed that their children complain that the system is attacked by virus during download.
About 5% of the users were worried that the children disclosed their personal information online.
Tristia Clarke of Talk Talk said that it is the duty of the internet service provider to protect the individuals and the system from any type of attack through the internet.
The users must be able to enjoy the benefits of the online world. The fear of security risk should not refrain him from using the computer and the net. The individuals must take their own precautions, but the service providers also have to do their duty in helping them.
McAfee has disclosed that during the previous two quarters, about 12 million malware codes had emerged. There will not be any surprise if the fig rises to 75 million by the end of the year.
