Silver surfers and broadband usage
According to a new study, older generations are doing better than youngsters when it comes to broadband use. Talk Talk and F-Secure conducted a research on the online usage by the people above the age of 60 and found that 90% per cent web users in the UK, go online everyday. Again 68 per cent of this group log on several times a day.
The research found that as far as the 23 to 35 year olds are concerned, 77 percent of them go online. It shows that there is a boom in ‘silver surfers’ usage of online through out the country. Again it was found that one third of the silver surfers access TV and radio over the internet while 20 per cent of the over-60 plays game online.
Talk Talk in its research found that 75 per cent of the above-60s use internet for banking and 83 per cent of them doing online shopping. The Commercial Director at TalkTalk, Tritia Clarke said that the over-60s are happy to communicate over the internet. She added that the firm is keenly interested in the welfare of the aged and the firm launched HomeSafe, a free network level security service. It alerts the customers about the visit of malware.
