Ofcom has fined, TalkTalk for over billing its customers. A fine of £3 million has been charged as a penalty for wrongly billing thousands of its customers even after they have stopped their accounts. Allegations suggest that the provider and its subsidiary Tiscali have billed more than 62,000 customers wrongly during the period January to November 2010. Though, Ofcom has warned TalkTalk and Tiscali about the issue and asked for rectification, the same mistakes were continued till March 2011. Ofcom said that £3 million penalty will make the company realize about their serious mistakes and compel them and other telecom companies to obey the rules. Dido Harding, chief executive of TalkTalk states that the penalties were disproportionate. He said that the company has been putting efforts to invest in the systems, customer services and processes, since last year and significant progress have been achieved. The company has paid over £2.5 million as compensations and refunds to 65,000 customers.
