Carphone Warehouse Split to Happen Next Year

The separating of Carphone Warehouse's TalkTalk broadband ISP and retail divisions will be completed by July 2010, according to reports. The news had been announced by the company sources along with its annual results. Half of the company's phone retail chain was sold to Best Buy Electronics (BBY) of the USA last year.

In Friday's result statement, Charles Dunstone the chief executive of Carphone Warehouse had commented that it was high time for the separation of their TalkTalk broadband ISP from the joint venture. He said that it had been quiet apparent in the circumstances that the two businesses-TalkTalk Broadband and Best Buy Europe were currently two businesses.

Charles Dunstone CEO TalkTalkDunstone added that since many factors such as the absence of any material synergy between the two companies, businesses already run effectively as independent entities and particularly one growing out of the other, the companies needed independent operation for competitive as well as operational reasons.

Dunstone also said that separation of the banking facilities of the two companies were also nearing finalisation. This would leave both the companies listed as publicly quoted, independent companies. Meanwhile, news is also out that the company will be retaining the name of Carphone Warehouse Stores, even though the electronics stores of Best Buy Europe will be opened next year.

TalkTalk, with its acquisition of the UK assets of Tiscali Broadband, has put forth its claims of being the second largest fixed line broadband supplier in the country, only behind BT. However, the Acquisition of Tiscali assets at GBP236 million will propbably see that the company is raised to the predominant status in terms of home broadband providing in the UK.
