PayTV Adoption slows but Popularity of Sky Broadband rises

Wednesday, May 4th 2011

It has been claimed that the popularity of the broadband service of one of the leading telecommunications providers of the United Kingdom, Sky is continuing to surge among the country's consumers.

Steve Hewlett, BBS Radio 4's The Media Show presenter has noted while writing for the Organ Grinder blog of The Guardian that each quarter was witnessing a rise in the number of subscriptions.

According to his comment, the broadband provider, having trodden past 10 million customers, may not have yet touched the point of saturation in the payTV market.

Nevertheless, it was suggested by Hewlett that the broadband division of Sky was continuing to expand at a remarkable rate, offering further opportunities of growth for the broadband provider.

26 per cent of the subscribers of Sky, as explained by Hewlett were currently triple play customers, which means they pay Sky for broadband, home phone and television services.

Incidentally, 155,000 net addition of broadband customers were achieved by Sky during quarter one of 2011, with its total number of subscribers rising to 3.2 million.
