One of the UK ISPs Sky's B2B division has informed that they have launched a new 1 Gbps capable Sky Ethernet service into UK market recently and the service will be brought via 2800 exchanges and 7500 km fibre networks which covers 96% of business postcodes in the UK.
We should note that 70% of their exchanges, which are 10 Gbps enabled, are used for delivery of their 1Gb Sky Ethernet service and they are also increasing to reach 99.95% network. Sky is also working with ISP Fluidone and SSE Enterprise Telecoms for their services.
The current launch was followed by the announcement in the month of May 2018 on new partnership with SSE Enterprise Telecoms for executing cost beneficial and high capacity Ethernet services to the businesses across the UK for their connectivity needs. As a part of the partnership Sky would provide them with last mile & backhaul services and making 200+ of their customers to benefit with more choice and wide reachability.
Sky Business Strategy and Commercial Director - Mike Greening said that they could get an opportunity in different channel to provide alternate choice of network to meet the growing needs and demands and to provide quality network connectivity to businesses. Now it is simpler as there is no legacy processes involved and they can focus on whatever they want particularly focusing on the areas which make a difference for their partners. It is important to offer amazing partner experience, providing them access to sporting events and contents & marketing support. Sky wants to work with diverse partners specialist in connectivity to cloud providers, SIs and international carriers and they want to have a deeper relationship and grow collectively.
The new service is not likely to have negative impact on the existing residential customers of the broadband services as business traffic will be handled differently than that off residential connection and data traffice peak times will be different for businesses and for resident users.
