‘BSkyB’ has disclosed its plans with respect to its fiber optic high speed internet service. After releasing the financial report of the establishment for the final two quarters of the year, the broadband provider informed that it has three plans with a view to increase its customer base. They are as follows:

1. Extend the Local Loop Unbundled (LLU) footprint from the current 82% of the
UK premises to 88% by the end of next year. This will benefit another 1.4
million homes.

2. Provide its ‘Broadband Unlimited’ customers with free Wi-Fi service from
the coming April.

3. Introduce fiber broadband service to the customers interested in higher speeds,
again from April, 2011. It will make use of BT’s fiber-to-the- cabinet
(FTTC) infrastructure to launch a monthly plan of GBP 20 with a download
speed of 40 Mbps, with-out ceiling on monthly data. Interested parties can
reregister for it straightaway.

As far as the financial results are concerned, the turn over for the six months ending on December, 2011 was a whooping GBP 3.64 billion which is 5.6% more than that in the same period during the previous year. The gross profit was 772 million, an increase of 14%. The net profit rose from GBP 407 million to GBP 441 million.

During the last three months, about 166,000 new broadband subscribers were enrolled, taking the total customer strength to 3.651 million.

Allowing the customers to migrate, 59% of its broadband customers are classified as ‘on-net’. The number of landline users rose to 3.407 million at the end of the year showing an increase of 23.6% for the year. Line rental customers also increased by 40% during the year.
