The satellite broadcaster BSkyB whose operation includes telephone service and internet service increased its profit by 32% in the three months of July, August and September.

There was an increase of about 150,000 new broadband customers. The revenue per user increased by GBP 25 compared to the previous year.

The strength of the subscribers availing TV, broadband and telephony became 2.9 million, an increase of almost 29%.

Jeremy Darroch of the company is pleased at the remarkable show of the company despite stiff competition.

The existing customers have been asked to take up all the three services as enrolling new customers has been found to be a real task.

26, 000 new customers were added to the list of its customers for its ‘pay TV service’ as against 96,000 during the same period in the previous year.

BSkyB was set to be taken over by News Corporation. But this did not happen in view of the phone hacking scandal which began in July. News Corporation wanted to give back GBP One Billion to the shareholders to settle the issues.

During the annual general body meeting scheduled for the end of the week, News Corporation is likely to face the dissent of the shareholders, who are displeased at the way the company is managed.

Rupert Murdoch is the chairman and chief executive of News Corporation, whereas his son James Murdoch is its deputy chief operating officer. James Murdoch is also the chairman of BSkyB.

Several directors including Rupert Murdoch have lost the confidence of the shareholders who are likely to vote against their re-election.
