In the aftermath of a pandemic outbreak that has till date claimed 56 lives, authorities as well as many organisations all over the world are calling for the enhancement of crisis management amongst various institutions all over the world including broadband firms. The call out is based on the fact that a pandemic like Swine Flu may escalate in very little time, before infecting more than 25 percent of the world's population and more importantly last for many months. There are many scientists and researchers who believe that a severe pandemic at its peak can strip of even up to 75 percent of workforce from routine work.
A couple of weeks back, the BSG (Broadband Stakeholder Group) had issued a warning to the IT and broadband sector all over the world that the spreading of the Swine Flu as a pandemic would have devastating effects on the world economy that is already in dire straits due to the on going global economic meltdown. The group along with the warning, also stressed on the significant role broadband can play in eradicating or controlling the global pandemic, in its report 2008 on the significance of new generation broadband to Britain.
BSG stated that when Britain was last hit by a pandemic, broadband did not exist, meanwhile the universal availability of broadband at present could prove critical in maintaining the economy going in the event of a good part of the population falling ill. The group also stressed on the significance of almost all organisations in the world contemplating on the scopes of using broadband to assist them in coping with the disruption that might result once the Swine Flu virus take gripe in Britain, which in its turn is not a distant possibility today.
A website called Personal Today has meanwhile come up with a remarkable article, which is all about a set of ten advices to the HR professionals and employers to tackle the ill effects of a possible Swine Flu outbreak in the UK, prepared keeping in mind the fact that there was little employers could do to prevent the outbreak of the epidemic, although they could do much to prepare for it.
