Plusnet States That 26% of the People in the UK are Unfamiliar with to Broadband Jargon

Terms like Wi-Fi, router and bandwidth seem to be rather bewildering to about one fourth of the people in Britain. Over one fourth of the homes in the UK are not sure about a wide range of words concerning broadband, says a study that was initiated by Plusnet. In the survey conducted by Opinion Matters, it was revealed that of the 59% of the people in households that have Internet connectivity, 26% did not know the meaning of words like Wi-Fi, download, router, cursor and bandwidth. The older people did better than the younger surfers when it concerned matters regarding elucidation of technical terms, and 72% of the people over 55 years of age say that they know the meaning of all the terms in comparison with 61% of people between 16 and 24 years. Lucy Hedges and Nick Rawlings of Plusnet who are the gadget specialists on BBC Two show called ‘Something for The Weekend’ were talking to radio station throughout the country to consider the results of the findings. The previous month, TalkTalk found that the older generation of people were on par with the youngsters concerning topics of access to the Internet, with nine out of ten of the people above 60 years preferring to access the Internet at least one time daily. Of the total number who participated in the survey, two thirds of the people in this age group informed that they accesses the Internet many times a day, when compared to the three fourths of the people in the 26 to 35 year age group.
