Briton to get Consumer Broadband Speeds of upto 77Mbps

Plusnet, the popular internet service provider operating in the United Kingdom has revealed limited details last day regarding the first internet consumer in the United Kingdom to go live on the FTTP fibre optic broadband service trials of BT Openreach.

It has been reported that Plusnet had taken much interest in reporting this for the very fact that the concerned customer, herbiejhopkins happens to be one of their clients. Nonetheless, a spped test carried out initially showed that he was receiving FTTP customer download speeds of up to 77Mbps and upload speeds of up to 15Mbps.

The existing GBP 2.5 billion plan of BT would see 2.5 billion households and businesses in the United Kingdom getting FTTP connections by 2012 end. It is noteworthy here that BT would be covering around 66 per cent of the British population by 2015 with its slower 40Mbps service.

The next batch of the internet service provider's FTTP customers are believed to go live on the pilot in the next two weeks and a number of other broadband providers are also understood to be involved. However, it is quiet a limited set of trials and the commercial rollout is still months away.

At the same time, Plusnet too has furnished the media with a limited update regarding its FTTC trial. As a matter of fact, a number of providers including AAISP, IDNet, Fast UK, Eclipse Internet and BT are already availing the up to 40Mbps services commercially, although Plusnet has seldom launched on of its product of the kind.
