EE recently announced the launch of the world’s first petabyte (PB) plan along with several other 3G and 4G data bundles for businesses. One petabyte equalling one million gigabyte is the largest bundle released so far and is referred to as the Super Bundle. This new option can transfer 500 billion pages of text, download 1 billion presentations of Microsoft Powerpoint each containing 40 slides or 13 years of HD video streaming. The launch will help data intensive industries and broadcasters to save millions and millions of pounds in storing data. Customers need not book a slot in advance.

The cost of the entire bundle will be £8 million with every GB costing £8. This will be in contrast to the cost for satellite uplink services which falls at about £20 per GB. Several other Super Bundles are also launched with the capacity of 50 terabyte (TB), 100TB, 200TB, 500TB plans. Bundles come with no contract period or expiry date. According to EE, 2,500 users are sure to consume 200TB every six months and that business data usage is set to grow at the rate of 860% by 2016.
