A 20Mbps Trial Package Launched by Orange Among Selected Customer Group

Sunday, March 8th 2009

Orange announced a trial service package of 20Mbps broadband fixed line services on Wednesday that would precede their grand gala launch of the 20Mbps broadband fixed for later this year. Orange revealed that the initial trial package was dealing with a select band of customers that numbers up to three hundred, mainly with a view to put the infrastructure to acid test before the final launch.

The chosen set of customers for being the part of the initial trial comes from the existingOrange Logo 8Mbps broadband subscribers of the Internet Service Provider. The trial enjoys the back up of a specially set up support team along with a microsite that might turn out ineffective if the broadband does not work par expectations. Nevertheless, according to Orange the trial would strive to monitor the performance and stability of the faster speed, before a wider roll-out.

Making their intentions clear, Orange's director of broadband and home, Asif Aziz said that the trial was all the more significant for its enabling them to roll out a fast broadband as good as 20Mbps of speed to the customers across their network. He added that the trial would also be a testament to their ongoing commitment to not only realise their fixed broadband service, but also to ensure that the customers enjoy a dependable broadband experience.

However, unlike the ventures of some other big names like BT and Virgin Media that much referred to the latest fibre optic connectivity, Orange conducts the trial over traditional copper wire. This is a fact that would make the trial struggle to achieve the speeds that are obtained from fibre optic connectivity. Nonetheless, there are many who consider the 20Mbps trial by Orange a positive aspect that could stand in the future, against the monopoly effected by the fibre optic ISPs.
