Search Engines to be charged by UK ISPs
A commoner can call it the Google Effect or Google Impact, as this thing that is currently in the broadband internet market air of the United Kingdom so strong against the search engines is conspicuously triggerred by the disproportionately ever-increasing popularity of the US-based search giant. This has today simply turned net neutrality, always a touchy subject, into getting really worse as it is understood that Telefonica's (parent company of mobile broadband provider O2) view of charging search engines for enjoying their networks has openly and secretly thrilled many more. Talking about Net Neutrality or Network Neutrality, it refers to the policy of no restriction to internet websites, content and internet access providers' platforms. Nevertheless, this is not any sort of problem for UK broadband providers today as many of them have already engaged traffic management systems apparently for throttling bandwidth to certain services such as online gaming and p2p. The debate that has been going for long has once again got heated up this month with Telefonica president Cesar Alierta's shocking announcement that his company cherished plans for making search engine websites pay for using their network. Eventually, Telefonica found a strong supporter in Virgin Media, as the leading cable and fibe optic broadband internet service provider openly supported the view of the Telefonica president and stated they would also love to follow suit.
