• O2 to join in 100Mbps race

The recent announcement of BT Broadband provider to roll out fibre based (FTTx) broadband network across the UK in the next four years came just after the UK telecom regulator, Ofcom assured  the ISPs that it will provide favourable regulatory environment for the ISPs to develop new infrastructure to offer high speed internet access to the broadband users in the UK.

According to the statement issued by the ISP, BT will launch its £1.5 billion project to deploy FTTC and FTTP lines that will provide super-fast broadband with speeds up to 100 Mbps to 10 million UK households by 2012.

The cable broadband provider, Virgin Media has already been offering  fibre optic broadband to its customers while the cable ISP has already rolled out 50MB broadband trial services in some areas of the UK.

Now, the major ADSL 2+ broadband provider, O2 which offers high speed broadband packages and mobile broadband services in the UK is all set to launch super-fast broadband services (100 Mbps) in near future.

    O2 statement:
"We need clear and unambiguous regulation in place before we start shelling out huge sums of money,"
"We strongly support BT’s call for a stable regulatory environment that rewards both current and future investment. We will continue working closely with Ofcom and the government to achieve this."
