LTE Trials will be run by O2 before 2010 Summer
LTE or Long Term Evolution technology is the next generation technology for mobile broadband. This technology has been subjected for great hype mainly for one reason that it delivers phenomenal download speeds as fast as 100Mbps. The LTE technology that transcends the best existing mobile broadband technology in the world, 3G (HSPA or HSDPA) , has been in big time news for a couple of years now. The LTE admirers, yesterday (Wednesday 30 2009) enjoyed hearing something from the public relation room of the leading mobile broadband provider in the UK, O2. This is all about the company’s plans for testing the advanced technology in Britain before next summer.
Telefonica, the parent company of O2 mobile broadband ISP has announced that it will be trialing the LTE technologies over the next few months not only in United Kingdom, but also in five other countries. The trials once started, will emerge as the first of their sort to be done in Britain. More optimistic is an O2 spokesman who claimed that the whole happening will be kicked off within the upcoming six months.
However, something that disillusions the admirers of the LTE technology is the fact that trialing was a far cry from an effective rollout of the new LTE networks.
Meanwhile, Telefonica has claimed that the new technology would enable the networks of mobile broadband to achieve peak theoretical download speeds of up to 340Mbps. Nevertheless, the company’s adding the clause ‘under ideal conditions’ once again disappoints the people waiting for this service, mainly for the reason that they know it means not in the actual world.
Meanwhile, in some other place in Europe, the maiden commercial LTE network rollout is all set to happen, and this would happen in Sweden in 2010.
