eBay and Telefonica Combine Together to Allow Mobile Shopping

Saturday, February 26th 2011

A peerless contract between eBay (the world's no 1 online shopping site) and Telefonica (a giant Telecom service provider) enables millions of customers to access their mobiles directly on eBay online marketplace. Now eBay will work with Telefonica to make its shopping facilities available on most smart mobiles and feature phones sold by the latter, via the O2 brand across UK. It is also the world's first pre-load deal offered by eBay and also the first time ever that Telefonica has chosen an application to its customers.
Although eBay would market its applications to other Telefonica brands also, O2 customers are the first to benefit the facility. Later this year, O2 smart phones running the Windows® Phone 7, Android™, RIM, Symbian and Bada devices will feature the eBay's mobile application icon or the link in the homepage. The company is currently working with mobile manufacturers to pre-install the application.
Glyn Povah, (Head of Content at Telefonica O2 Europe) believes that such deals will be beneficial to the customers and the brands as well. It opens the gate for high quality selling and servicing and will also help in making those unique models stand out in the otherwise, highly competitive market.
Steve Yankovich, the Vice President of Mobile, eBay believes that the mobile phone is the gateway for the future shopping era.
Shopping will only become more and more convenient with on-the-go mobile shopping methods.
