UK Mobile Broadband Speeds Trail the Advertised by 75 Percent

A recently carried out research revealed that the real life speeds delivered by the various mobile broadband providers in the UK account to only 25 percent of the advertised headline data rates. The average speed of mobile broadband, at 1Mbps is 34 percent slower than the average ADSL connection speed in the country. The research was conducted by a company called Epitiro that is a specialist firm in the management of customer-experience.

Epitiro had resorted to its 'Isposure' tool that is a handset-based application, for the data required to carry out the research. The application was installed by the agency on around 1,300 devices across Britain between last year December and the starting of May this year. The research recorded results of more than 1.4million tests.

Regarding the speed advertisements by the mobile broadband suppliers, O2, 3UK and Orange each advertised 3Mbps as the potential top speed, while Vodafone claimed 7.2 Mbps and T-Mobile 4.5Mbps. However, the test period witnessed only a fastent 20 agent average speed of 1.8Mbps. The term fastest 20 agent has been used by Epitiro to account the host devices by its measurement application.

These days mobile broadband has been touted by the providers as a potential alternative to the fixed broadband connection. Hence, this research-based report revealing the actual performance standards of the mobile broadband segment in the country is all the more important owing to this special circumstance triggered by the Digital Britain interim report of the government.
