Ofcom determined to fulfill the needs of areas of poor connectivity
Ofcom, the telecom regulator wants that 98% of the UK population to be benefited by the next generation super fast broadband through 4G network.
It believes that it may provide faster broadband to the areas which are now struggling with low or even without internet connection.
Ed Richards of Ofcom remarked that with the proper allocation of the spectrum, the UK will become one of the best markets for mobile phones within the European continent.
As the latest communication system is on its way, Ofcom wants to promote healthy competition, inspire investment and innovation.
The 4G will be not only faster and better than the 2G, but the coverage will be far wider.
The idea is to serve even the areas which are currently underserved by the existing network.
It has been predicted that the demand for mobile data is bound to rise by 500% during the next five years on account of smartphones and mobile broadband services like social networking, online mapping, video streaming, email, messenger services etc.
In October 2011, the government set aside GBP 150 million to meet the needs of the areas where connectivity is absolutely bad. Apart from that there is need to provide extra money to be paid as incentives to the service providers to encourage them to execute the work in the remote areas against their wish.
The winner of the auction will be asked to execute the work in areas where high speed broadband is inevitable. They are not supposed to choose the areas where execution is easy.
