Mobile Broadband Sales in the EU Dominated by UK, Italy and Germany

A research carried out by Telecompaper reveals that out of a total of 18.3 million mobile broadband subscribers using the mobile data modem (dongles), an astounding 62 percent belongs to the United Kingdom, Italy and Germany. This stastistical fact amounts to 3.6 percent of the global total. The research also disclosed the fact that the Western Europe's mobile broadband modem market had reached around 10.5 million units in the year 2008.


 


The market for mobile broadband modem (dongles), constituted the devices such as internal cellular modems for netbooks and laptops, Express cards, PC cards and the most significant USB modems that are also called dongles. Another fact revealed by the survey was that the mobile broadband devices market was dominated by a couple of Chinese companies, namely ZTE and Huawei.


 


A UKbased Dongle AdAccording to the survey, the rapid growth of mobile broadband modem sales in these European countries could be attributed to a combination of factors, spearheaded by price reduction for both hardware as well as services. The other significant factors that contributed to this end was remarkable performance and deep sighted marketing.


 


The predictions too point towards a situation where mobile broadband dongles would promote a 19 percent cagr, apart from reaching 25 million units for shipment by the year 2013. Predictions also refer to good times for embedded modems that come pre-installed in netkooks. It is expected that the sales of external adapters would be overtaken by the embedded modems by 2012.
