Finally UK Spectrum Auction announced

The government of the United Kingdom has finally announced that it would be auctioning off the radio spectrum chunks with a view to paving the way for the next generation broadband services in the country.

It is understood that the auction will take place in the later part of the year 2011. This means, if everything goes according to the plan the mobile customers of the United Kingdom can enjoy high speed mobile broadband from as soon as 2012.

Ed Vaizey, the communications minister said while launching the spectrum modernisation that the last twenty years has witnessed a revolution in mobile technologies, although the country required the networks to carry on improving and increasing services.

Vaizey added that under their plans, the country's mobile industry would be provided access to the 21st century moble infrastructure required for providing the consumers in the UK the latest technologies besides even better mobile phone and mobile broadband coverage.

Some mobile broadband industry analysts have impugned the capability of the mobile networks to recoup the investment made by them, despite previously carried out auctions raising billions of pounds.

The fresh areas of the spectrum would be partly availed since the digital broadcasts having replaced the analogue television signal. A place where this has happened already, Cornwall is to witness commercial pilots of the fresh super fast mobile broadband.
