European Union Will Invest in 4G Technology
It is reported that the European Union, from the beginning of 2010 will invest over GBP 18 million in the research of one of the most advanced mobile connectivity technology across the continent. To be more precise, it was just decided by the European Union to begin the funding process for the reseach on the advanced LTE technology (Long Term Evolution), which can offer mobile broadband speeds of even up to 100Mbps. This speed is about a hundred times speedier than the speeds delivered by the currently available 3G networks. It is more than evident today that the LTE technology was fast emerging as the first choice for the industry's next generation mobile broadband networks. It is also worth mentioning here that the EU had been funding this research since 2004. In Europe, LTE is being trialled by mobile networks in Germany, Finland, Spain, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom. It is expected that an LTE network service wiould be available commercially in Norway and Sweden, as early as, in the first half of next year. It was in July that the EU had decided to begin investing in the research on the LTE enhanced version called the LTE Advanced. Meanwhile, many leading mobile networks as well as mobile manufacturers all over the world have already committed to engaging the LTE standard. These manufacturers and operators include T-Mobile, Verizon, TeliaSonera, Nokia Siemens, Huawei, Ericsson, Orange, NTT-DoCoMo, Alcatel Lucent and AT&T.
