Worcestershire to Obtain Super-fast Broadband

A fund amount of 8.5 million pounds has been promised by the council of Worcestershire for providing high speed broadband across the Worcestershire County.

This promise was made by the council cabinet of the county assuring that speedier broadband will soon be available to homes and business houses in Worcestershire in the next four years by 2015.

The aim, the scope and the plans of the Local Broadband Plan for the county were also decided and settled upon.

In addition the government’s Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) fund, the sustainable transport fund and the Green Infrastructure fund would also be provided.

The main goal of the Worcestershire council is to target that at least 90% of businesses and homes in the county would gain access to super-fast broadband Internet connectivity by end 2015.

Vital for Economic Growth
The Local Broadband Plan it is said will be sent in to the BDUK next month and if it were accepted, the council would be in a position to take out 3.3 million pounds from the funds next year.

The council anticipates that the Green Infrastructure would contribute 400,000 pounds from the funding and the sustainable transport would offer 300,000 pounds other than investments from other sources.

Simon Gerghaty the Councillor and cabinet member for Economy and Infrastructure stated that high speed Internet connection was imperative for the international growth of businesses. He also stated that super-fast broadband was vital for the future economic growth of the county.

He said that by providing steady and faster broadband connectivity would enhance the quality of life for the people living in Worcestershire and in addition would help in making the economy grow.

The report on the progress of the venture will be sent to the cabinet by 2012 April.

The Broadband Delivery UK is a subsidiary of the government’s department for Culture, Media and Sport and is under oath to enhance broadband connectivity to homes, businesses and communities throughout the UK.
