Worcestershire to have faster broadband funding

Wednesday, December 28th 2011

As ‘faster broadband’ is the talk of the whole of UK nowadays, the subjects of Kidderminster have been asked to attend a couple of sessions related to the provision of faster broadband to the county of Worcestershire.

The Worcestershire county council has arranged the sessions in January to enable the residents to combine Expressions of Interest (EoI) for three funds, namely,
1. The Green Infrastructure Fund of GBP 400,000.
2. The Worcestershire Local Sustainable Transport Fund of GBP 300,000 and
3. The Rural Community Broadband fund of GBP 20 million of DEFRA (The
Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs).

The Local Broadband Plan (LBP) of Worcestershire is also included. This plan is to meet the connectivity needs of 90 percent of the county’s residents and businesses. They must be able to get a download speed of at least 2 Mbps.

David Thain, the cabinet member of the county council for ‘transformation and change’ wanted the subjects to think of local solutions and to deal with the ‘Expressions of Interest’ processes to get the funding.

The council will do everything to make available Super fast broadband in the whole of Worcestershire. At the same time all efforts will be made to improve services making use of the advanced technology.

The closing date for the Rural Community Broadband Fund is 31st January of 2012. The deadline for EoI for Green Infrastructure Fund is even earlier, at 20th January.
