With the confirmation of the 30 million Pounds Upgrade, Presto Gets Ready to Access High Speed Broadband
With the Lancashire County Council declaring a multi-million pounds funding Preston is getting set to avail of high speed broadband very soon. The County Council will provide an amount of 4.7 million pounds to ensure that speed over 30 Mbps would be made available to most of the people and businesses in the county, The public funding would be paid to BT to determine places in which there are no providers, high speed broadband or no business plans to deliver super-fast broadband connectivity. In such places high speed broadband would be made accessible. As per the plans of the council, approximately 97 percent of the county should be able to access broadband in another two years time. Leader of the Lancashire County Council, Geoff Driver stated that they were resolute that the Lancashire County would continue getting the advantages by being in the front line of this know-how. He commented that setting up the super-fast broadband network would offer plenty of opportunities not just for business enterprises in Lancashire, but that it would also change the way that people, particularly in the non-metropolitan and regions and areas that do not have access to broadband get linked to the world outside. They council also anticipate financial enhancement with the broadband improvement when businesses in and around Preston will be in the forefront of faster and more reliable speeds. Chairman of Lancashire Enterprise Partnership, Mr. Edwin Booth, stated that high speed broadband had a vital and significant part to play in enhancing output and modernization in all fields of economy in Lancashire. . He said they require an economy that flourishes in Lancashire and super-fast broadband would assist them in attaining their objective. He added that as far as offering the necessary facilities for the business in the 21st century, getting this super-fast network ready could be likened to the building of roadways and waterways that was essential and vital for the Industrial revolution. The Broadband Delivery UK would also invest an amount of 10.8 million pounds other than the Lancashire funding. The BDUK is a subsidiary of the Department of Culture, Media and Sport. Another amount of 16.5 million pounds would also be given by the European regional Development Fund. This venture is expected to generate twenty five new jobs and a three million pound grant would be set up to assist medium and small sized business enterprises to make maximum use of the next-generation broadband facilities.
