A new home technology study revealed that more than 85% of the customers are paying for high speed broadband connection, which is quite unnecessary for them. They could have settled for a cheaper deal. The latest survey from Computeractive indicated that most of the customers can save about GBP 6.12 per month if they had been made aware of their requirement. The providers could have guided them properly. An average consumer has to pay GBP 15.72 for the broadband without any landline. But most of the people need only low band width. It means that they could have been allotted a ‘GBP 5 per month deal’ instead of forcing a ‘GBP 9.6 per month deal’ or something like that. The people before signing up for broadband should verify themselves whether they are really in need of it and if so at what speeds. Some of the the major reasons for using internet at home are: Online shopping 62%, Online Banking 58%, Social Networking 57%, News and entertainment 45% and so on. The broadband contracts have a bandwidth cap, due to which there is a limitation for the amount of data that can be downloaded every month even if the broadband speed is very high. The users are generally not aware of these matters. It was also noted that those aged 55 pay an average of GBP 17 per month for the facility, which is more than what the youngsters pay. But they rarely watch video online or TV. So they are paying without making use of the service.
