Wiltshire County Council (WCC) to use its Broadband Delivery UK funding

Wiltshire County Council (WCC) is also set to use the Broadband Delivery UK funding to deliver super-fast broadband connections. Council has received £4.9 million funding from the government to ensure super-fast broadband in rural parts of the country. In addition to the government funding, the council has put aside £16 million to accomplish the goal. Councillor, Thomson said that they have made the investment as delivering broadband in the area was important. A super fast broadband connection is very important to the households and business of Wiltshire, reveals a study conducted by county council. In the survey, 97 per cent of household users and 99 per cent of employees have expressed their need for a super fast broadband connection. Most of the respondents admitted that they lacked insufficient speeds, while third of the respondents said that they received a standard speed. The survey will enable the council to determine the places that need urgent broadband improvements. By 2015, the council hopes to connect 85 per cent of properties to next-generation broadband connections. With super fast connections home users can save money by shopping online while businesses can increase its sales. A broadband connection in rural areas will allow people to connect to the world outside and learn different skills.
