Will Herefordshire Council Promise Millions on broadband Venture?

Tuesday, January 24th 2012

There are chances that the greatly criticized broadband facilities of the county are all ready to get enhancement worth six million pounds.

The Council of Herefordshire is after a scheme that will include this remarkable amount in their 2012/2013 budget that they plan to present before all the members of the county the early days of the coming month.

If approved the finances would be matched with the grants already assigned by the government to the county which is a part of the Border Broadband.

This is one of UK four trial ventures to enhance the provision of broadband in the non-metropolitan regions. Councillor Graham Powell, the broadband champion for Herefordshire stated that the investment from the council for broadband is something that would be considered for the enduring prospects of Herefordshire.

He said that broadband is a 21st century tool that is capable of enhancing many features of daily living and businesses also require faster broadband to be able to access worldwide markets and suppliers. It is not correct that the residents of rural regions be left out of this facility.

A big financial contribution is also anticipated from a company that has not yet been chosen. This company would be entrusted with the contract of designing, building and maintaining the broadband network. The minimum broadband level approved by the government is 2 megabits per second and even this is inaccessible to one fourth of the homes in Herefordshire.

This plan for the funding would be thrashed out at length when the full council meet on the 3rd of February this year.
