Sunday, January 26th 2014

Virgin Media scooped up 3 awards at the uSwitch Broadband Awards ceremony. The haul included the prestigious award for Best Broadband Provider, the award for Best Customer Rated Broadband and award for Fastest Broadband.

Sky as runner-up, pulled off four awards that included those for Best Broadband, TV & Home Phone, TV Provider and Best TV Streaming service- Sky Go. Sky overcame stiff opposition to pick the Best Customer Benefit prize too.

The Broadband expert Marie-Louise Abretti of uSwitch, remarked that although Virgin and Sky had won most awards, the broadband service considered a 4th utility, has to constantly meet customer concerns on costs, speed and service. The award to Plusnet proves that smaller providers could give better service unlike the giants, she added.

Other winners of awards were BT, taking Best Broadband Innovation award for BT Sport that has made an impact. Plusnet got the Best Customer Service and Best Value Home Broadband awards. EE was awarded Fastest Mobile Broadband which had a 9 month head-start in the 4G market space, providing internet speeds of around 5.1Mbps.
