VAT Hike to precipitate Home Broadband Price Rise

Thursday, January 6th 2011

It has been reported that a decision by the government of the United Kingdom to increase the value added tax (VAT) in the country would in its turn be precipitating a price hike for home broadband products.

Incidentally, the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government of the United Kingdom has increased the tax from 17.5 per cent to 20 per cent. This development is expected to affect a range of services and goods as well as UK broadband internet bundles in the country.

This rise is significant as it comes just twelve months after the VAT rate's returning to 17.5 per cent from the previous 15 per cent. That development had taken place then as the then Labour government hoped that greater consumer spending would be encouraged by the temprary reduction.

The Labour leader that was installed recently, Ed Miliband has falyed the increase. He warned that the move could result in exerting too much pressure on homes across the United Kingdom.

Miliband remarked that it certainly was not the time for bringing about an increase in VAT rates, with home budgets were already squeezed. Accordin to the politician, the rise would only result in making it further hard for the families to make ends meet.
