UK's Loan to Ireland to be discussed by Council
The loan to be extended by the United Kingdom to Ireland, with a view to contributing to the economic bailout of the country is likely to be subject to discussion at a meeting held on the Isle of Man. According to news sources, the loan is expected to be discussed between Taoiseach Brian Cowen and Nick Clegg, the deputy prime minister of the United Kingdom when the former meets him at the meeting.
The legislation needed for allowing the contribution of the United Kingdom to the economic recovery of Ireland is due for a discussion this week in Westminster. In the meantime, the Taoiseach is also understood to hold a meeting with the first and deputy first ministers of Northern Ireland.
Topics chosen for the discussion would be including digital inclusion and the availability of broadband internet service. It has been reported that Eamon Ryan, the communicatons minister would be accompanying the Taoiseach.
The British-Irish Council responsible for discussing the loan comprises of the governments of the United Kingdom, Wales, Scotland, the Isle of Man, Guernsey, Jersey, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The council aims at promoting positive connections between the members.
