UK to have high level broadband speeds in Europe

Monday, June 14th 2010

According to Jeremy Hunt, culture secretary, Britain would have the most superfast UK broadband network in Europe in few years from now.

The minister said that the intention of the previous government to rollout speeds of 2Mbps has not reached the expected end and would have done very little to make it a competitive country. He told this in view of improving the UK's online infrastructure. Mr Hunt also said that he was keen to go further than labour and that the high speed network has the potential of creating over 60000 jobs in coming years.

He explained that the superfast broadband is not just to do the same things faster. But to do totally new things and creating platform where a whole generation of new businesses can flourish. However the secretary refused to give details about the speed the government is aiming for and the method of funding the next generation of broadband infrastructure.

North Yorkshire County Council has announced meanwhile about the completion of rolling out the high-speed broadband across the region.
