A freshly carried out research has revealed that the United Kingdom is the third biggest broadband market in Europe. The first and second largest broadband internet markets in the continent according to the study are Germany and France.

The research results have been published via Research and Markets. These results revealed that at the end of 2009 September 18.1 million broadband internet lines were operating in the United Kingdom. This included fibre optic broadband lines as well.

The research also showed that at the end of the year 2008, the market share's 70.7 per cent was based on ADSL technology. These figures show a rise from the 44.9 per cent market share before three years.

An important suggestion that came up from the research was the reduction of prices of the services experienced. Moreover, the research disclosed the fact that while the total broadband internet connections has risen by 10.7 per cent, only 3.8 per cent of revenue growth was witnessed.

The report rated BT as the leader in the broadband services market, putting it ahead of both Virgin Media and TalkTalk.
