UK Average Broadband Speeds Top those in the US

A new research has revealed that broadband access speeds in the US trailed those of the UK, as the average UK broadband speeds trailed those of Japan, South Korea and Sweden. The survey was carried out by an agency known as Futuresource Consulting.

According to the agency's studies, home broadband speed was at its best in the Asian market. This is a region where South Korea and Japan enjoys a tremendous average download speed of 30Mbps each. Meanwhile in Europe, the country with the fastest typical broadband connections was found to be Sweden.

The average download speed enjoyed by Sweden is 14Mbps, far ahead of the United Kingdom's average download speed of 3.6 Mbps. However, the average broadband download speed of the USA virtually languished at 2.7 Mbps.

Further, the research by the Futuresource Consulting also boded that the total number of home broadband subscribers in the world would exceed the 500 million barrier in the coming year. The research also noted that only 20 percent of the total connections in the world accounted to cable broadband, as the bulk – 60 percent – of the connections were some kind of Digital Subscriber line.
