The UK touches the 20.3 million Fixed Broadband Lines Mark

The telecommunications regulator, Ofcom have stated that the UK had 20.275 fixed broadband lines as of the end of the third quarter of the previous year.

Ofcom have created a descending revision of numbers that were presented in the earlier quarter, doing away with approximately 200,000 BT DSL connections from the total numbers that had been reported in the second quarter.

Therefore despite excellent increase, the figures in the third quarter of the UK broadband lines were higher only by a small degree on 20.266 million that was reported in the second quarter.

Of the total numbers of 20.275 BT Retail DSL lines for responsible for 5,565,000, which showed an increase from the revised 5,493,000 in the second quarter.

Other DSL lines that accounted for of 2,601,000 were down from the 2,731,000 in the Q2. The Virgin Media line services managed 4,090,000 connections which was an increase from the 4,065,000 lines that they had got in the 2nd quarter.

The number of ‘other’ connections for fixed lines that also had in their category local loop unbundled broadband packages that were offered by providers like Sky and TalkTalk increased from 7,787,000 to 8,020,000 in the third quarter.

Ofcom, the previous week, had reported that the standard download speed of the UK had gone up from 6.2Mbps to 7.6 Mbps in the one year period between November 2010 and November 2011.
