A media magnate of France has virtually launched a scathing attack on the broadband providers in the United Kingdom for not supporting the creative industry by disparaging the anti-filesharing legislation proposal put forward by Lord Mandelson, the business secretary of Britain. According to the media tycoon by doing so the UK ISPs were letting down the musical heritage of the country.

Vivendi Universal LogoThe chief executive officer of Vivendi, the media giant of France, Jean-Bernard Levy, the broadband segment of the United Kingdom needed to embrace the French model of three strikes that cuts off the illegal online filesharers’ broadband internet connection, at the instance of persistent law-breaking.

Levy has advised the UK internet service providers that they ought to favour the laws proposed by the government to help tackle the infringers. He added that if France could go ahead with such legislation, it was obvious that the United Kingdom too should have been doing something akin to the French three-strike action to increasingly favour the development of the media industries.

As a matter of fact, this policy undertaken by France of issuing three strikes before disconnecting the persistent filesharers’ broadband service, has a number of ardent followers in the UK as well. Some of the staunch supporters of the legislation proposal in the country at present, apart from certain popular artists of the creative industry are UK ISPs such as Virgin Media.

Meanwhile, among those who seriously oppose this kind of legislation in the United Kingdom, are certain internet service providers including TalkTalk and BT, and a few leading artists of the creative industry. BT is the prominent fixed-line broadband provider operating in the country, as TalkTalk, owned by the UK mobile phone giant Carphone Warehouse, is popular as the provider of some of the cheapest business broadband packages in the country.
