The Competition Between Virgin Media and BT Provides Another Enhancement in Speeds for Broadband

Wednesday, January 18th 2012

Broadband users are still profiting from the ongoing rivalry between BT and Virgin Media. The advantages of market competition was revealed the previous week when one of the major providers Virgin Media declared a long series of upgrades which will ensure that the firm hikes the broadband speeds two fold to over four million people who subscribe to their fibre optic broadband services. The one and a half year project will be set off in February. Once the users have the upgraded speeds they can anticipate download speeds of up to 120Mpbs. Of course this will depend on the type of deal the user had registered for. The lowest level of the firm’s deal, that of the 10Mbps offer would be stopped off fully as their entry-level facility would now offer speeds of 20Mbps. The information that one of the biggest Broadband providers is offering upgrades is wonderful news nevertheless what was more striking was the point that consumers were not expected to pay any additional money to make the most of these improved abilities of their broadband connectivity. Certainly this resolution to hike broadband speeds free of cost had been ticked off by BT who had launched a venture akin to this toward the end of the previous year. According to the telecom stalwart’s agenda, the price charged for their fibre-to-the- cabinet facility would approximately become twice as much, meaning it would be 80Mbps. The highest level of the firm the fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service that was launched in November commercially would be hiked to 300Mbps speeds. In spite of the fact that the FTTH is available only to a handful of homes and business enterprises, it was still extremely well greeted and everyone is anticipating that more premises would be able to access to the new technology in the near future. Therefore before talking about the country lagging behind the countries in Europe, it would do good to mull over the never ending competition between BT and Virgin Media that can only prove to be extremely constructive for the consumers of both providers.
