The Broadband Network in South Yorkshire Continues to Lose Money

It has been exposed that the much debated Digital Region Broadband network in South Yorkshire is losing plenty of money.

The venture had reported that their losses have exceeded 9.2 million pounds. This scheme had cost them network providers an amount of 100million pounds to have got it established. And the money that was generated that very year was a mere 167,000 million pounds.

People and officials have been quite worried wondering whether the project was feasible. This particular venture was created such that it would connect Rotherham, Sheffield, Doncaster and Barnsley, making use of the high speed fibre optic broadband connections.

The impassiveness of the main broadband providers in the Digital Region network has resulted in anxiety that the whole venture would fail hopelessly, particularly when considering rivalry from BT.

Thea Stein, Chief Executive officer of Yorkshire Forward told Yorkshire Post that the Digital Region would probably need additional grants from the public sectors.

He said that it was there have been talks with the central government because all grants for Yorkshire Forward eventually is provided by them.

He also stated that they were hoping to ensure that the Digital region would survive and thrive, but like all new business enterprises required good backing.

Since the coalition government have taken a decision to stop regional development firms, Yorkshire Forward is expected to pull down their curtain in the spring of 2011.
