Superfast Broadband Rollout pledged by Tories
It has been reported that the Conservatives have announced fresh plans to roll-out superfast next generation broadband internet service across the United Kingdom. This time the promised connection speed is 100Mbps. The policy has been included in the new Technology Manifesto unveiled by the Tories. The Technology Manifesto explains how the Conservative Party intends to enhance the economy and create more jobs via innovation of the IT sector. It is a shot aimed at the hull of the Labour's Digital Britain plans as the latter emphasise a country-wide broadband rollout that just offers a connection speed of 2Mbps. The Tories think they could potentially score here as their promise is more or less 50 times faster than what has been promised by the Labour government. According to the shadow cabinet office minister Francis Maude the aim was to turn the government of the United Kingdom the most technology friendly country in the world. Meanwhile, Jermy Hunt the shadow culture secretary said that their ambition was to make sure that the next generation of online corporate giants such as Facebooks, Microsofts and Googles were British firms. He had welcomed the proposal of BT to open up its cable line ducts to other broadband providers in the country.
