Doncaster Council has awarded contract to ‘Digital Region Ltd’ for providing high speed broadband communication networks for the schools, homes and establishments in the area apart from council buildings for the next five years. The network will be so secure as to be eligible for ‘Public Sector Network accreditation’. The value of the contract is just above GBP One Million. The work will soon start and is expected to go on for almost a year. In any case, the selected council buildings and schools will get the internet service by October. It is expected that more than GBP 100,000 will be saved per year. The council will be doing a great service to the residents by providing them the fast internet service. Coun Mark Thompson, cabinet member for finance and corporate services, is very particular that the next generation technology should be made available for the people of Doncaster, who should realize the vast advantages they can have with the internet. The signing of the contract indicates that the council is in the uplift and welfare of the society with the help of most modern technology. It is indeed a boon for the school children to avail and benefit from fast internet connection and they are bound to gain a lot from web based education. There is no doubt that business in the region will also substantially improve with the availability of high speed unlimited broadband.
