South Chard to get better broadband service through BT
British Telecom (BT) plans to provide faster broadband access to 26,000 homes and businesses in Somerset County by the summer of 2012. The properties in South Chard are among them.
BT intends to make available a download speed of around 20 Mbps, which is much higher than the 10 Mbps which was available to most of the homes and businesses in the country.
Jon Reynolds of BT informed that BT’s broadband installation is progressing fast across the South West. The original plan was to cater to the needs of around one million homes and businesses in the region by the end of 2012. BT is confident of doing much more than that by installing copper lines.
Households and business concerns in Ilminster will also get the facility by the spring of 2012 on account of the Ethernet technology adopted by BT. The places like Chard, Taunton, Yeovil etc are already enjoying the service.
Chris Garcia of the South-West Regional Development Agency is pleased at the initiative of BT. The businesses in South-West are now better placed to compete in the world market against the establishments elsewhere. The economy of the place and the employment opportunities are bound to rise.
The benefits are enormous. Better productivity, improved business opportunities thanks to growth in e-commerce, rapid innovation etc are just some of them.
